October 11, 2019 - Update

PG&E’s “Public Safety Power Shutoff” (PSPS)

As of 5:30 pm, Thursday, October 10, 2019, the Mt. Diablo Unified School District received notification from PG&E that power would be restored to all phase 2 customers, including Pleasant Hill Elementary School. As of today, October 11, 2019 all Mt. Diablo USD schools are in session with no power outages.

We will continue to monitor the PG&E website and seek clarification directly from PG&E regarding any future shut-downs or potential shut-downs.  We will continue to update this data as we receive additional information from PG&E on the “PG&E Potential Power Outages and Impacts to MDUSD” spreadsheet (link below).

I would like to thank you all on behalf of the District for your patience and understanding during this time, and for working together to ensure the safety of our students. I am grateful we were able to continuing providing premier education despite the circumstances!

 Dear Ygnacio Valley Elementary Families,

Our school goals are: 1. to address the Priority Standards and ensure all of our children have strategies to master them, 2. to help students identify the differences between Bullying and Conflict and have tools to face both; and 3. to find ways to increase Parent Engagement.

In reflecting about these goals, we have a dedicated teaching and classified staff who works relentlessly towards providing our children social, emotional and academic support. Classroom teachers have been working on the implementation of a new Language Arts curriculum with an emphasis on meeting the priority standards. They also have delved deep into strategies that best address the Mathematics Frameworks.

Bullying and Conflict is a concept that is at the forefront of our daily work. Students have been learning about the differences between bullying and conflict. On the other hand, kindness is a powerful tool to prevent bullying. Click HERE to learn more about the positive influence of KINDNESS. Our staff will be working on Kindness Challenges throughout the school year. You will receive more information from your teachers. We also have our students learn about the language and actions that show kindness. We even created a River of Kindness!! #kindnessmatter

As far as Parent Engagement, we have been working on different venues to establish and maintain a positive partnership between school and the community. Some include: Eagle Day, Welcome Breakfast, Back to School Night, Call Home,  ELAC meetings, Platicas, Title I meeting, School web applications and PTA. We are very excited to announce that we hosted our first Art Gala and Beautification Day.  Please, visit our PTA page in this website to learn about more opportunities to connect and participate in upcoming school events. #familiaYVE

Fondly,

Mrs. Orellana
